Martina Franca
Martina Franca is located on the highest point of the Murgia, in a position from where it dominate the Valle d’Itria. The historic origins of Martina Franca dated back to X century. The main attraction of Martina is the historic centre which has splendid testimonials of the Barocco artistic style. The most important monument in Martina Franca is the Palazzo Ducale. It was built in the 1668 by the duke of Martina Petracone V Caracciolo. The building was realized by the architect Giovanni Andrea Carlucci, who worked on a drowning approved by Gianlorenzo Bernini. Martina Franca has a fervid cultural activity which culminates in the Festival della Valle d’Itria, an important lyric festival all over Europe.
