Locorotondo

Locorotondo is located on a hill in the heart of the Valle d’Itria. Its name came from the circular shape of its ancient centre build around the year 1000. The historic centre of Locorotondo has been developed following a circular map and its characteristic are the white houses with stone roofs, called Cummerse. The Chiesa Matrice of San Giorgio, built between 1790 and 1825 is in the centre of the town. Another important church is the gothic church Chiesa di S.Maria della Greca. Other interesting sites to be visited are the old building Vecchio Palazzo Comunale, today used as a library, built in the 1600; an the nearby Palazzo Morelli, the only noble building with a barocco style façade.
